Yesterday was SEND, acronym for Student Empowerment Networking Day, hosted by the Pilipino Transfer Student Partnership. It was a day to acquaint students with UCLA, as well as to meet other incoming transfers, current students, and even alumni. Although I previously visited the campus last year, it was nice to actually meet students, and to be reminded of the reasons why I decided to push myself harder in school these last few semesters.
I cannot even fathom the amazing-ness that UCLA is! It’s filled with so much history, activity, and diversity that I can’t even compare it to any other university I have seen. The most famous buildings, Royce Hall and Powell Library (which is open 24 HOURS and has personal mac books you can BORROW.. omgomg) face each other and constitute this picture perfect scene from the steps leading to north and south campus (I’m still fuming about how I forgot my camera.. smh). Those same buildings have this exquisite brick architecture based on the Basilica in Milan, and Martin Luther King Jr. even made a speech to the students here.
North and South Campus are the polar opposites of one another, with North tailoring to the humanities (this would be my home), while south caters to the sciences. There are so many activities and organizations on campus that it’s more difficult to limit yourself to what you want to join as opposed to joining at all! Dorm food was great with pesto pasta and turkey with wild rice (i can feel the pounds coming..), and I was pleased to meet so many people with interesting background stories. The people on PTSP are all such friendly faces, and were awesome to have this program for transfers to interact. I might want to join their group if I end up going here.
I still have Berkeley to visit next week, so I can make no judgments regarding my decisions.
I feel pretty good about LA though.(:
